Thanks for adding your thoughts @Phoenix_Rising and @Faith-and-Hope.  The wave riding analogy is a great one as it brings to my mind both the waves of despair that we help each other through but also the wonderful energising waves that we can ride together in the good times.  The forum has room for both.
