Re: Battles

Hello @MJG017 but how many times do things have to come crashing down? I've had enough of having to rebuild time and time again. It's exhausting and every time there's more pieces than I can pick up to rebuild.

Re: Battles

@Dreamy

Yeah, that is the trick.  I really can't answer it other than to say how much strength and resilience it takes anyone to rebuild once, let alone time and time again.  Hopefully one of the rebuild sticks and doesn't need to be done again.  Of course, none of this it to say that I'm dismissing in any way how frustrating, exhausting, and devastating the continuing personal toll must be.

Re: Battles

@MJG017 yeah maybe one day I'll get lucky to not have to rebuild again.

I need to vent.

I just went to the shops and of course my anxiety was high so most of the time was spent trying to hide the fact that I was having a panic attack. Anyway I was wearing my sunflower lanyard (hidden disability) and had my ear buds in to drown the world out. I went into a shop and walked in with my handbag on my back and a shopping bag on my arm with 3 small things in it, I brought 3 things in this shop and after paying for them and going to head out the security guard stopped to bag check me, but he didn't just have a quick look, he made me empty out the bag, show him both receipts including for the things that he just watched me purchase and he checked every little detail then he made me show him the contents of my handbag. I was shocked, like I've been bag checked plenty of times but not like this, I was completely embarrassed and felt it was an invasion of my privacy. Actually thinking about emailing the company as it was not necessary to do what he did to me. Thoughts on this?

Re: Battles

@Dreamy what he did was harassment. Legally they are not allowed to have you empty the entire contents of your bag in public, they need to take you to an office. He is to have another person with him, a shop attendant or another security guard and legally they are not to be alone with you.

You are allowed to ask for someone else to be in attendance. You are allowed to ask to see video footage of suspected theft.

I had this happen to me... I had my granny shopping trolley and this old lady had said "its her, she took my credit card". Out the front of the supermarket I was forced to empty out my entire trolley and handbag, show receipts from several stores in front of the food court. They showed no footage and I went up the chain. I can't say anything was done but it does help to feel heard

I am the kind to make noise though.

Re: Battles

@avant-garde see I'm not one to make a scene. But this just shook me today, like I went into this shop knew exactly what I was getting so only went where i needed to in order to get the things I needed then went straight to the checkout. Really thinking of emailing the company but even that takes strength to try and find the right words to say to explain what happened. Don't get me wrong i don't care about being bag checked but this was more than that.

I'm sorry for what happened to you, it causes such embarrassment.

Re: Battles

@Dreamy oh I didn't make a scene, just did as I was told, making noise means saying something to change things, it wouldn't have helped at the time but if he's doing that to you, how many others is he doing it to?

Re: Battles

@avant-garde yeah that's what I mean, like taking it further after what happened. Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it.

Re: Battles

@Dreamy

I agree totally with @avant-garde!  Definitely email them and tell them what happened and how it's made you feel.  That was just way over the top and would make anyone feel so embarrassed.  I hate walking through those security exit scanner thingies!  Absolutely hate it!  I always tense up because those things go off all the time, because they don't like something in you pocket or they forgot to deactivate a security tag!  I just get so anxious walking through them.  It's a bit easier these days because no one seems to pay them any attention half the time.  And these new gates Coles have that don;t let you out until you've paid!  Don;t get me started!!

So i don't think your post was a rant, you have every right to be upset and to let them know.  If it was me, i'd be completely p#$$ed.

Re: Battles

@MJG017 yeah I think i definitely will. Those scanner things drive me nuts, my Lego that I got yesterday from kmart had a thing on it so when I went through beep beep beep, was sure I was redder than a beetroot 😂. Thankfully the lady that was on the front scanning the receipts knew me so we had a laugh about it, but the anxiety it gives you is ridiculous. Oh those Coles things, there's a reason i don't shop at Coles unless I absolutely have to, like something I need is really cheap.

I just didn't know if I was overreacting to the situation, you know how our brains like to make a mountain out of a mole hill. It's still got me pretty worked up but then it doesn't take much at the moment with everything else going on.

How are you going anyway?

Re: Battles

Oh my stars! What an ignorant Security person.

These people need better training @Dreamy Emailing the company or Shopping Centre Management would be doing everyone a favour.

Definitely email them.
