Re: Topic Tuesday// NDIS, Disability & Mental Health// Tues 31st January 2023 5:30-7:00PM

thank you - do you know of plans that are more than 4 years in length, for chronic mental illness,?

@Sanity23

5 years is the max plan length that i am aware of at this point in time - i had a look around and couldn't find evidence of longer however i may be wrong. Stable mental health issues can also go for what is known as a "zero dollar plan" i.e. a plan period with no funding without leaving the NDIS.

@chibamWhat services do you want? And do you mean paying for support services yourself?

Well, first thing is I need to be set up with a serious girlfriend (hopefully eventual wife). Then I also need help with being rehoused, and employment.

If I need to pay for it myself, then so be it. Although government support would be helpful. But first and foremost is to track down a service that will actually be of some help to me. Figuring out how to pay for it is very much Step 2.

Because I know you can do that through HireUp. If you sign up as a client with HireUp, and you're self-funded, you can book support workers for help with meals, socialising, housework, therapy support, etc.

I've never heard of that before. It certainly sounds like it might have some promise. I'll look in to it!

@chibam

I believe a lot of support services shifted their business model to depend primarily on NDIS funding, but there supposedly do exist some government or charitable funding streams leftover from pre-NDIS welfare/heath/community service program systems. I don't know how you find or access those however.

@chibam oh, the psychosocial services you're describing in this "Previous material I've read lead me to believe that "psychosocial services" actually fix (or at least improve) their patients' real-life problems. i.e. They'll reassign a patient to a new home if their currant one is inappropriate; they'll give their unemployed patients a job; they'll stop a patient's bullying, ect." are provided by different agencies that you might be able to access through a case manager from NSW Health. As far as I know, there isn't one agency, department, or non-goverment organisation that would find you housing, and employment, and deal with bullying in the community, etc.
the HASI program helps with housing and general support for people with with mental illness and/or addiction, I think.

@MyLife_MyWay

Which post are you after more clarification on ? Happy to talk specifics 😄

Re: Topic Tuesday// NDIS, Disability & Mental Health// Tues 31st January 2023 5:30-7:00PM

And our last question...

What support can those who are awaiting access to or ineligible for NDIS access?

My suggestion would be to visit:

https://www.ndis.gov.au/applying-access-ndis/how-apply/receiving-your-access-decision/support-people...

This can provide you with further services that may be able to assist you specific issues and situations outside of the NDIS.
