Re: i dont know what to do
Hi @leanne66 - welcome to the SANE forums!
I'm sorry to hear about what is happening for your son at the moment and wondering if it might be helpful to speak to one of the SANE counsellors for more specific advice and support. The SANE Help Centre have really understanding counsellors who can listen and offer support. They are available from 10 am to 10 pm Monday to Friday via phone 1800 18 7263, Web-chat, or “Book a Call” with them here.
Again, it's great you've found your way here to the forums and I think you'll find the community is a great place for support, information and connection. Feel free to ask the SANE forum team or the members if you need help with how to use the forum. You might like to check out the Guidelines as they can be a pretty useful in understanding how it all works https://saneforums.org/t5/help/faqpage#community-guidelines.
Take care

Re: i dont know what to do
Hi @leanne66
It is great as a parent you have reached out, great first step in helping your son.
It is hard watching a loved one go through this and as mentioned above please use the resources of communication on offer.
From a parents perspective myself please also care for yourself during this time.
Taking time to recharge and re-group will be beneficial in helping your son.
I know at this time that may seem hard and overwhelming.
Know that everyone here is happy to be a listening ear for you.

Re: i dont know what to do
@leanne66 . From my personal experience with my daughter who started hearing voices after drug use at the same age, I can only advise that you need to seek help for your son. The sooner he is seen the better. Try to reassure him that the doctors who will be seeing him only have his best interests at heart. I know that's not easy. No judgement just much needed help. I'm sorry you and your son are on this path and I wish I had been able to get help for my daughter sooner. With the right medication and support your son will find ways to manage. My daughter too has many regrets regarding the drugs she took that led to this but what's done is done. Sending support and hoping you can persuade your son to seek help asap. There was a program on Insight this week about hearing voices and all the specialists agreed the sooner treatment starts the better the outcome.

Re: i dont know what to do
My son is 30 he has heard voices for 11/2 years they got worse it morphed into a belief he thinks someone he knows along with a science team are talking with him and controlling him in ways. Its horrific!!! He had been dealing with it, usually been his normal self when not talking about it. He held a complex job and looked to be a healthy, intelligent man.
He had a huge breakdown/ psycosis attack 2 weeks ago and was put into a psyc ward for 10 days on very heavy meds. This is a long story and blame was a big part of it, he had to blame anyone but himself or the drugs he took that caused his dellusions. He is out 2 days now and having bad side affects to the injected medication as well as still feeding the delusion if allowed. There's a long road ahead for me... My advice is to get him help NOW the longer he thinks that way, the more ingrained it will become. I should have kept my son in monash the first time he was in there but the place was horrible and i felt cruel! Casey seemed alot better and there is a good focus on mental health thanks to Carona. Make sure he is OFF all drugs and alcohol and get help ASAP you have to be strong to go against his wishes but he needs help I wish i did it sooner x

Re: i dont know what to do
From a clean, sober, recovering drug addict, I can say that until he reaches a place where it is either rock bottom or sees that he needs help and goes to get it, there isn't a lot you can do for him. It's like you are caught in the middle. You are conversing with him and conversing with mental health teams in order to get your son to help himself and the mental health teams to help him. It's pretty exhausting.
Maybe he is going to have to hit his rock bottom. Maybe he needs to not go for an assessment but a rehab centre through a drug program first. Perhaps that would be better suited as his drug usage is not over.
The voices he hears are his. At least that's what I think. Quitting us damn hard. It's a strong addiction but it can be done. It's a long road to recovery.
It would be hard to leave him to his own devices, but sometimes mother's can do no more. Perhaps letting him fall flat on his face is the only way he will eventually get the help he needs. Don't forget self care for yourself.
I hope something gives soon for you and him.

Re: i dont know what to do
Hey @leanne66 thank you for starting this conversation, it is such an important issue to unpack and I am sorry to hear of what you're experiencing with your son. How are you travelling since your last post?
