Re: why why why
Haha! I want to write more, but I don't want to keep you on here so you can go wifey some time!
For now, I just wanna say, it's great to hear that you opened up to your folks. It takes courage to do it. I dunno why (I do it too), but I seem to think of worse case scenarios when things are tough and I need help - Like people will think it's my fault. But in the end I usually find that friends and family are supportive.
Anyhoo, happy anniversary!

Re: why why why
When I referred to expert being on tap, not on top, its about the idea of a working relationship with any supports you choose. That is, an open mind to listen to you, and for you to listen to other's ideas. It has been my experience that I really wanted a solution, a quick fix to help me regain control, but I learned that I need to be questioning and thinking about my mind. I did go to a peer support group that really helped me understand that collective wisdom and lived experience was vital for me to be able to cooperate with help. Especially when I sometimes didn't agree with my psych's suggestions..

Re: why why why
I totally understand you not wanting to go through the hospital system. I feel the same.
Beyond Blue is NO HELP in relation to psychiatrists.
Where are you located?
Many places offer one-off assessments via Medicare. For example, the Black Dog Institute in Sydney do comprehensive assessments with a referral from a GP. The Institute specialises in mood disorders such as depression & BP so if you are in NSW, might be an option for you.
I've been trying for a very long time to see a psychiatrist. Thus far I haven't had any luck and find GPs no help either. My local GP refer to the local ritzy, private, fresh flowers in reception, highly expensive private private practice and even then only differentes in terms of gender or how "nice" a psychiatrist is rather than their skills and interests!

Re: why why why
I hit no wheres ville this arvo I had just gotten my 4th sorry but you neef to get the referral sent through so then dr so and so can look at it and decide if they will see you...... and even if they do the wait will be 6+ weeks.
Wow thanks receptionist way to make me feel great lol.
I jumped in my car to go pick up a friend and thought well "hhelp is just a phone call away" I tried lifeline they are really nice ->me - verging on mild mania while driving. Him - so nice and helpful, impressed by my progress lol
EXCEPT - It seems I am too aware of myself to be classed as a threat to me or others for him to come up with much more lol Cheers buddy.
I ring my g.p she offers not much more help except to push that she "can" look into it for me "but" I will have to see whoever it might be. Thats not cool for me so I know I went plunging for depression but maintained composer and said thanks ill think about it
Thats a sure sign I'm giving up.... my wife bless her. Takes it on board, waits till I am distracted and calls to book a double appt so I can get a health plan done - not sure why the dr didn't make me do one earlier lol and my wife has helped me to get myself set to start this whole process off by just starting with someone to get the ball rolling.
She is a gem that one.
Maude *huge hug* I hope you can find something that might help in this
Maybe you can see if another g.p can help with more insight? Sending my hopes and luck your way to help you find something soon.

Re: why why why
Hi Kato,
Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you are having a trying time at the moment. I really feel for you.
I can recommend someone - she's in the outer East of Melb but I will need to do it via an email, as we are not allowed to post drs names on here (positively or negatively). I am just trying to work out how to get you the info, with Cherry's help.
Take care. Managing mania is hard work - I know as I've just brought myself down from a manic phase (no meds as I get hideous side-effects) with lots of quiet time at home. Basically I don't go anywhere I don't have to, as busyness makes me ill (either manic or depressed, sometimes both in succession).
Kind regards,
Kristin
