Hey @Karen55oscar ,
I've lived with BPD for many years now. I was diagnosed in my late teens and BPD took away my late teens and the entirety of my early adulthood. Looking back, it was extremely painful. I was well worn out and those around me were done...
I lived each day hoping it would be the last to end the suffering.
Today? I'm still here. And I'm glad for it. Things have completely turned on its head. I was fully supported by the public health system and I underwent just over 18 months of intensive MBT treatment (mentalisation based therapy). This was twice a week consisting of both individual and group sessions. So it was a HUGE commitment. It was hard, especially the group element, but that is what made the difference.
And like you, at first I was diagnosed with bipolar. I also had depression, anxiety and OCD traits. So I was on a plethora of medication.
Long story short. I did not have bipolar but BPD. The medication I took was to help with the anxiety and depression so that I would be able to face therapy. Then the rest of the work was psychotherapy.
Things couldn't be better. Looking back, it was because of my BPD that I've come to experience incredible things. I've met incredible people and I've come to know that BPD is VERY treatable. You just need the right treatment.
Please don't give up.
