Hi SANE Community,

This fortnight we will be having a discussion about art and creativity with our peer support worker, @Former-Member ! 🎨

Why Art & Creativity?

The role of art in our lives is often questioned because at the surface it can appear to be a frivolous and meaningless activity. However (while that may be true for some!), art can also encourage us to look beyond survival and lead us to create for the sake of expression and meaning- connecting us with others.

Art can communicate information, legitimise our thoughts and emotions, make a social statement, ground us and be enjoyed for aesthetic beauty. Studies have even shown that taking part in creative art activities can have a positive effect on our mental health and wellbeing.

This will be an open discussion around our motivations for engaging creatively, our experiences with art, and how we can apply it in our lives to foster better wellbeing and relationships. Remember, you don’t have to think of yourself as a creative person, or be good at art, to benefit from art and creativity. Nor do you have to know much about art to join this conversation! This is a space for us all to share and learn from each other. 😊

Please join us here on Tuesday the 9th of November 2021 from 7:00pm-8:30pm AEST to follow this conversation.
