Ok yes that is serious @Anastasia Hopefully it's the less invasive path and it will require tablets only. If surgery, they can remove a lot of the plaque which will be beneficial for your dad. Not sure about his diet but he may need to reduce his cholesterol intake vastly and very little of fatty, fried food.
