Hey forums fam. Today, as many of you probably know, is R U Okay Day. I’ve been here long enough to know that this day can actually be kinda triggering for those living with complex mental health. Because a lot of the time, we aren’t really okay, and being asked that question can feel like a bit of a slap in the face.
I just want to take a moment to acknowledge that, acknowledge that having only one day a year where people might think to check up on us, or to have someone we’re not close to ask us that question when they probably don’t want to know the real answer, can feel really lousy.
So I won’t ask you.
But I do know that all of us here are surviving. The amount of courage, resilience, tenacity, and fortitude that I witness in all of you is truly inspiring to me. And the ways I see this community band together to look after one another is so incredible and so meaningful – enough so that I reckon this community is the number one reason I’ve stuck around for the last four years. You’re all absolutely amazing!
So feel free to use this post as an opportunity to talk about your own experiences of R U Okay Day, and I would also love if we can all share some of our little wins, so we can remind ourselves that even if we’re not okay, we still have things we can celebrate together.
For me, my recent little win is that I paid my car rego on time. My ADHD brain is an expert in forgetting things and so actually remembering to do something important feels like a victory for me. Yay! I’m an adult!!
What about you forums fam, any little wins of late?
