what’s going on with this war? Is it getting worse? Someone on Instagram just said it’s now like a genocide but like why though what makes it that over a war? I’m really confused

From what I understand, a lot of countries have signed a petition for a ceasefire in the war so more aid can get through to the civilians in Gaza. Australia didn't sign. I'm not sure as to why. I try to avoid the news as it's too upsetting but I do listen to a news podcast and they said this in the headlines.
