I did quite a lengthy questionnaire which helped to identify my different schema modes. I had a vulnerable child, a healthy adult, the hopeless part (that’s the part that wants to give up and struggles a lot with SI), the abuser (that’s the part that berates me.
in therapy you work out where your schemas come from, when they come out… I was getting better at working out when which part was present and what it was doing.

Oh yes @Abner - it's definitely on your terms. No one can do it for you. It is a talking therapy. It's not like medication where you 'take it' and it changes you. They are more skills and strategies that you practice. You practice what you think will work and leave what you don't feel will work.
I hope I haven't scared you or anything. That was not my intention.

@ArraDreaming, poor Mrs Jay5... I hope she is receiving all the TLC she needs right now.
As for the boys, hope they are asleep! I'm sure ready for a cuppa 🙂

Hey @ArraDreaming , schema refers to the thought processes in the brain. Schema therapy is used to practice and equip someone with the skills to work on changing unhelpful thought process to more helpful ones.
For example, for me, I was traumatised every time I heard the sirens emergency vehicles. My body would react in harmful ways and it was very difficult to stay calm. Through schema therapy, I was taught to link sirens with a different experience so that I would not have the physical effects of panic each time I heard sirens....
That's a really basic example. It goes much deeper than that.
Glad to hear your household is asleep. I thought you were going to say you were asleep because of the game.
