Re: Henry's Landing Strip & Hangar

Hi everyone 😊

Just thought I'd hang out in @HenryX s hangar for a bit, where I can reminisce about some happy times in the air.

I have my flying goggles on and a long scarf ... so I should look the part.

I love small planes and have been on a number of small aircraft for trips both here in Australia and overseas.

Probably my first would have been in Zimbabwe when I visited Victoria Falls.  My sister and myself booked a flight on a little 4-seater aircraft to fly over the top of the falls and the Zambezi river above it.  The spray from the falls rises far above the canyon, and its all quite spectacular.  Further up the river you can see hippos in the river and an abundance of bird life.  It was really amazing.

In Australia I had another great flight in a 4-seater plane, and flew over the Kakadu National Park.  The waterfalls, rainforests, wetlands and general sights were amazing.  So much birdlife everywhere you looked, and crocodiles swimming dangerously close to their prey.  Even saw a huge croc snap up a large bird as we looked out the windows of our little plane.  The death roll is a very effective method for crocs to get their dinner.

We have a small country airport not far from where I currently live and they have a flying club, some of whom offer joy flights around the area.  My husband and myself booked a flight when we had a visitor several years ago.  It was a 4 seater and took 3 customers, so it worked well.  We flew out to the coast and further up and down the coast.  We really live in a really beautiful part of the country.  We also flew over top of the area where our home is.  It strange how it all looks so different from the air, a whole new perspective.

My husband was very keen on flying, and when he was in the Navy he was in the process of getting his pilots licence.  Unfortunately finances and lack of time at that stage of his life, put a stop to his dreams.  He used to often talk about his experience flying in a fighter jet with an airforce friend of his.  The pilot said to him before they took off, that if anything went wrong that the ejector seat was to be deployed.  He said "I will say ... eject, eject, eject ... and you wont hear the third".

My brother earlier this year obtained his recreational pilots licence.  I was very proud of him, because it was a big effort for him to achieve that.  Since his car accident and subsequent PTSD his memory is bad and he was always worried that it would prevent him getting his licence.  But he found ways to get around it, mainly with notes everywhere, and he got his licence.  He is licenced to take a passenger, but with a recreational licence you are restricted in the distance you can go.  He has purchased a second hand 2-seater plane and has now built a hangar on his farm.  He regularly goes for a flight now.  I think this was a bit of a test for himself, and an effort to help him get through some of his PTSD limitations.  As I said, I am super proud of him, because I know it was incredibly hard for him.  I havent been able to visit my family since April, which was when my husband died, so I am yet to go for a flight with my brother.  But when I finally get down to visit, I am hoping he will take me up for a fly.  I cannot wait.

So how is everyone? @HenryX  @Clawde @Anastasia @Former-Member @ArtistZ @MDT @Sophia1 @RedHorse

I hope your weekend is a good one.  Take care all.

Re: Henry's Landing Strip & Hangar

What a wonderful list of experiences @Emelia8 thank you for sharing with us. It really Isao good to see you here 💞

It sounds like you are well travelled. I know @HenryX will love reading your message and I am sure have stories to swap. I will be reading with interest as I have no personal stores myself to share being quite afraid to fly even though I used to have to travel for work "back in the day"

Off to diffuse a situation 😳

Re: Henry's Landing Strip & Hangar

Hello @HenryX

Thank you for the welcome and interesting update of everyone..

This is very helpful as I feel exhausted trying to even think about reading back over all previous posts..

I am not good at responding to very busy posts..

This probably sounds odd.

I feel  safe on my living with ourselves post because that is where I  retreat to..

I also feel safe on the virtual writing thread as there I have been able to allow my mind to  roam free..

You might have noticed that my  responses in  different  areas do not land in time as they  take so long for me to  write.

Often they do not make sense..

Can confuse people

At times upset people..not my intent at all

I try also to support others who are really struggling or whom I have made a connection with and generally respond to them on the living ourselves thread again..

There are a few threads where I recognise that people are doing the same as me feeling safe in that space in that thread..

I try to support those..

I cannot say that I do that well all of the time.

I do try my hardest and work very hard at attempting  to put into words how deeply  I can feel the pain of others..

You might notice that I  retreat...am  seen about less often...write to myself..

at times my personal life requires me to have time away as well.

this I am aware of and will take time out when  all too much in my real world..

I will try to come over here when you tag me..

I just know that I will  be too overwhelmed to visit on a daily basis..

This has nothing to do with you or any other on here..

This is my looking after myself and setting personal boundaries for my own self care .

I think that the title of this thread is very inviting.

I do believe that you also have everyone's best interests at heart also..

There is also a mixture of history...life experiences....hobbies...interests and so much more..

A good vibe.

Thank you also for all of your supports in the background to my posts..

hugs my friend

Sophia 💛 sunshine to warm your heart and help heat up the huge lofty ceiling...expansive size of such a friendly, welcoming hangar..

Re: Henry's Landing Strip & Hangar

Re: Henry's Landing Strip & Hangar

Hello @Emelia8

Lovely to find you out and about..

A very interesting read..

I love flying and you have had some wonderful trips..

Years ago a friend took me out in a two person plane...not sure if called a bi-plane ...cannot remember name not important to me..

experience was..

It was exhilarating...thrilling..out of this world..

I am frightened of heights yet do not feel that when  flying in a plane no matter how small.

At one stage he suddenly said to me...okay...you take over..

I don't know how..

easy was the answer just do this....etc..

Well I flew...I turned on each side swooped lower and rose higher..

could not bring myself to do the upside down thing..

Best experience of a thrill I have ever had.

Always wanted to be able to fly like a bird when I was a child..

I hate the rides at shows though..

Enjoy your freedom and sharing here..

Take care

big hugs lovely Emelia
