Yeah I agree @Snowie Our fur babies are our family and so comforting to us. There has been talk here of allowances for special leave to look after our pets - wouldn't that be great ...especially for me now with 3. We have special leave to look after children and care for family - my fur babies are my family but they don't count presently It also makes it hard to get them to the vet when you live alone - luckily my vet clinic is open until 7pm and if I need to take one of them in for longer periods (eg an op or being under anaesthetic for tests) there is always someone there from about 7.30 ...means though I have to pay to have them in there for a day as I can't pick them up until after work.
Hey @Oaktree So lovely to see you visiting us here. I agree wholeheartedly - pets are very expensive and it is such a shame you cannot have one because of the cost - they provide us with so much love, companionship and I think hope - but they can also be very expensive

Hi @Zoe7
My fur baby was my life. I loved him so much but unfortunately about a week after his ninth birthday last year he passed away due to complications after an eye surgery. I really miss him. His vet costs were very high and luckily my son paid for them. Due to my husband having no job currently we really can't afford another fur baby which makes me sad. I imagine that pensioners have the same problem these days. Pet ownership is just going to be out of reach of so many people due to high vet costs.

Totally agree @Oaktree and unfortunately it is often those that most need that companionship that cannot affor a pet. I have paid around 15 thousand over the last 2 years for my fur babies' vet bills but worth every cent. I also had a little help from my Mum and sister - so grateful for that as I could not have afforded it all myself. Still paying off my current account but I am super lucky to have a wonderful vet who lets me do that.

Wow $15 thousand is a lot but yes they are great companionship so it is worth the money if you have it. When I win lotto I will go to a shelter and adopt a new pet. Until then I have my memories. One just came up of my fur baby from 9 years ago. A picture of him being just a puppy on Facebook. He was so cute then.
@Snowie thanks for your condolences

We thought we were going to lose Tobes a couple of months ago @Oaktree he was so sick but he pulled through and is now back to his old gorgeous self. Cat has cancer and needs daily medication. She had a major operation but since (so far) it is under control. I also have a new addition to our family - another cat (Clover) - she is 6 months old in a couple of days and is just beautiful. @Snowie and I call her squishy face (because she has a squishy face lol). She is very cute and her and Tobes like to play/chase each other. They make me laugh -especially when they steal each others toys and run away with them (mostly Clover lol).
They are my world so I do get just how much your little fur baby was (still is) to you. I honestly do not know what I would do without mine - especially Toby as I have him with me everywhere I go (apart from work of course). He is my little buddy and has kept me going more than once. What kind of dog was your fur baby?

I had a Ruby Cavalier King Charles Spaniel called Millie. He was supposed to be a girl that's how he got such a feminine name. Funny story lol. He was a beautifully natured dog. Followed me everywhere.

That breed is what I always thought I would get one day but then Tobes came into my life by chance and I could not be happier @Oaktree Look forward to seeing the photo.

I am glad that your Tobes pulled through a tricky health situation and I am sorry to hear Cat has cancer. That's tough. I think we talked about pets together once before as I remember you saying you had a kitten called clover. ☘️
