Re: Coin Collectors' Corner

@Harmonium the cheapest I have been able to find in stock is $90. I purchased some through ebay and offered them $90 and they accepted it.

They do have a website, but if you order on there, the postage is dearer.

Oooo! @Mustang67

I really appreciate you sharing those coins!

The Australian animal ones are great!

Re: Coin Collectors' Corner

Hi to all the coin collecting community,

I haven't been on here for a while, as I am still having trouble with my meds, but hopefully it won't be long now, and I will start to improve.

I thought I would share my latest coin purchases with you.

My purchases are as follows:

2023 €10 Euro The Language of Flowers - The Forget-Me-Not - Silver Proof Coin

As its name implies, the forget-me-not signifies ‘remember me’ in the language of flowers. Alongside other literal meanings of its common name, the fourth flower in the Language of Flowers series is also a symbol of profound love, remembrance, fidelity and constancy. On top of that, each spring forget-me-nots create a delightful froth of intense blue flowers and are a particularly welcome sight when not much else is in bloom.

Similar in a number of European languages – in France it is called ne m’oubliez pas, in Spain no me olvides and in Italy non ti scordar di me – the name forget-me-not originated in folk tales, the most notable of which is a German legend about a knight who swam across a river to fetch blue flowers growing on the opposite bank for his true love. Before he drowned while swimming back, flowers in hand, he flung them to his beloved crying ‘Vergissmeinnicht’, which translates as forget me not.

Giving forget-me-nots at the start of an illicit love affair could be a discreet way to convey a need for trust and confidentiality. Although passionate and romantic love are important elements of their meaning, forget-me-nots can signify deep friendship and familial love as well. In addition, forget-me-nots can be used to convey that the bonds of true love transcend time and space and will continue to exist despite physical separation and even death.

The coin’s reverse features imprints of three real forget-me-nots in bloom next to an ornamental side image of forget-me-nots, which is stylishly printed in colour. The obverse shows a young woman with flowers in her long hair. In the background, the white silhouette of a head in profile is framed by a partially visible clock face, which refers to the passing of time. Unlike many other symbolic meanings associated with flowers, those of the forget-me-not have endured – rather like the timeless love and constancy they convey.

2024 €10 Euro The Language of Flowers - The Violet - Silver Proof Coin

A delicate little flower with a strong character, the violet signifies faithfulness, loyalty and constancy in the language of flowers and has long been given as a token of love. Like all the coins in The Language of Flowers series, the final coin features an imprint of real flowers that captures violets in their natural state and is faithful to the tiniest detail.

With heart-shaped leaves and tiny, sweetly scented flowers that bloom from late winter to early spring, the violet is sometimes referred to as the ‘flower of modesty’ for the way its flowers hide coyly beneath the plant’s heart-shaped leaves. The association between the colour violet and the bluish-purple colour of the plant is thought to have developed in the late fourteenth century. Although most violets do come in shades of blue and purple, they can also be white and yellow, with each colour having a slightly different meaning in the language of flowers. Blue violets stand for love and faithfulness; purple violets mean ‘thinking of you’; white violets stand for innocence, purity and chastity; and yellow violets for high worth and goodness.

Combined with the violet’s inherent delicacy, flavour and fragrance, its symbolism perhaps makes it the perfect flower to convey a love that is pure and passionate, yet also bashful and measured. But let violets speak for themselves. With them you say: ‘I stand by you, come what may.’

The obverse of The Violet coin features a scene of togetherness in which the faces of a young couple are turned towards each other, their eyes closed and their foreheads gently touching, and their hands are clasped together. Both are wearing flowers in their hair. The coin’s reverse shows three fully opened violets and a flower bud, behind them a band of stylised violets. None of the principal flower images in the series is based on a drawing or illustration. The starting point of every coin design is a real flower grown in the garden, which is then pressed using a special technique.

Re: Coin Collectors' Corner

You make me envious whenever you post these amazing coins @Mustang67 ! I totally want them all!

Re: Coin Collectors' Corner

Hi @Mustang67 and @tyme  yes, these are truly special coins! Mustang you are such a committed collector : ) I think the language of flowers series is my favourite of all time! Such a lovely gift too. These treasured keepsakes are more likely to become family heirlooms than my Bluey’s and I think you chose with style. The LOF series has the most beautiful story and as one who loves gardening I have still learnt much from the story about each LOF coin you gave posted.

I’ve had a little break from coins because it became quite consuming. There are so many about…that said, I’m still watching my change closely and observing anything unique under magnification. I haven’t found much to write home about other than some railway tracks/off set and my first 1966 5c piece! That was a buzz. The very first year decimal coins came out and more than 50 years old and I found one in the wild. Super excited!

I’m enjoying 50c rolls at the moment too which my bank don’t mind giving me when I take some money out.

Wishing wellness, contentment and moments of happiness and fulfilment to everyone today. And may little sparks of joy burst forth over the weekend.

Re: Coin Collectors' Corner

@Mustang67 love the violet one!! and the elf on the shelf one... i just bought a mini elf on the shelf yesterday so perfect timing that i see these coins 😊

Re: Coin Collectors' Corner

Those coins look amazing @Mustang67

Wish I had some of them 😁

Re: Coin Collectors' Corner

Hi @Mustang67. Thanks for the posts about the new coins! I totally love the Elf on the Shelf coin- very cute! I haven’t done any coin collecting at all unless you count opening a money box to count the coins to cash in at the bank ( I needed the money to help with boxes for moving to a new rental property!). I’m debating on maybe cashing in the Bluey coins I got and seeing what I could get for them - possibly looking at the US market as they tend to love all things Bluey- but I’m not sure yet!

Take care!
