@ArraDreaming @Shaz51 - the hard thing is, this sister and her hubby are loaded. The kids have next to everything....
I've been looking at new games that have come out on Amazon... brainy games as well as games for fun. I'm browsing through them now. I reckon they have all the traditional games at home already, so I need something newish...
So hard for a 5 year old. But I really thought I should get her something because I don't think i've ever bought her something and she is going to school in the new year. I always want to get the kids something as a milestone gift for going to school. Otherwise, I give them money.
I'll continue browsing. I really appreciate your input. I will definitely consider all these things and continue looking!

Guess what @Shaz51 ? My sister just replied "She doesn't need anything because we just buy her stuff..." which is true. As they walk down the aisles, they get whatever they want....
Maybe I should buy her the 'real' stuff? The dangerous stuff eh @ArraDreaming ?
Then again, my other sister lets her kids cook with her. They use proper knives to cut veges, stand on a learning tower to fry food and stir the pot....

When I did private child care in my home
I did a shoebox present for each of the children in my care for Christmas each year -- that is 25 shoebox a year
I would collect shoebox around the same sizes and wrap them and fill inside with lots of goodies I know they liked
