It is a big commitment when doing it in a group. You still have individual sessions on top of that and more things that involve individuality. I have never done it, but have known a few people that have. Personally from what I saw and heard, one truly needs to commit for it to really work. I think the group element of it, might be good because it is also an extra supportive environment for you. The groups themselves are typically very small. That is all I can really say about it. I am sorry I do not know much about DBT done purely on an individual basis, but I am sure someone here will. I wish you all the best with your decision.

Thanks heaps @Powderfinger I really appreciate your considered reply. Are there any therapies/strategies you'd recommend? Mindfulness has been good for me but I feel really empty atm. I don't seem to care much about anything & I think one of the medications I'm on contributes to that detachment.

You are welcome. I actually cannot recommend any good therapies for you. I have done different types of therapies and discovered for me, it is not really for me to look for certain types. It is more about the person I am seeing at the time. Like you I am diagnosed chronic depression so I can understand the emptiness feeling. That numbness, emptiness and not caring about anything. It is interesting because the cause of these things, is feeling so miuch and caring so much prior. In short we are exhausted and are needing a break from our feelings and what is happening, so that too can also cause a bit of a disconnect. It sure is also a possibility that the medication you are on could be another contributing factor.
As for stratgeies, what I may do might not work for you. One size does not fit all. Mindfullness can be reall hard when you are feeling how you have stated. The best thing I recommend if possible is a lot of rest. Physical rest and resting the brain. When the brain has been given a chance to really rest, it is amazing what it can start doing again. When it is in constant overdrive, it really is not helpful. Now, this is the part that might be where you will have to talk to yourself and remind yourself. I do, because I forget. My brain has a thought and immediately I am up and am going to do it, when I truly need to be resting. This is awarness more than mindfulness and can bloody suck. It is essentially training the brain.
That is the best I can offer for you to give a try. I have no guarantees it will be right for you. It is what I am trying at the moment. I will also see how it goes lol. I hope this makes sense.

That's really very helpful - thanks for sharing @Powderfinger What you wrote really makes sense to me (although I am inactive & need to get up & do things!) All the very best to you on your journey- I hope you can get the rest you need & re-train the brain the way you want 🧠
