I am glad you have a relationship with him that is a little bit closer. I am also glad to hear you do not put up with anything from him. 

For me, I buried my dad. I buried him like one would do at a funeral. Quite a while back now I made my stance clear that I am not to be contacted by anyone should he be sick, dying or wants to get in touch with me. I have done it painful and hard.It's just too late. Some people do go when this happens. I just do not feel it will be right for me. Enough hurt.
