Hi @Harmonium if you are after trying your luck at winning coins, the best group is Collectables and Coins VIP. Any money raised from the dips, usually gets donated to charities. If you want to purchase coins on FB. I would suggest Aussie Coin Collection, Sales and Give-aways. There are a heap of different groups on there, and I have found as long as you are not looking for what a particular coins is worth, they are more than happy to pass their knowledge on to you.

Hi @tyme @Harmonium @Shaz51 @Judi9877 @Asgard @rav3n @Snowie Sorry, I had a bit of a melt down over the past week and a bit, so as I normally do, I locked myself away and cancelled all of my appointments, including my Dare to Dream workshop (which I love). But I am slowly making my way back and feel good enough to open my mail and have had a few deliveries of coins that I have purchased or won, So I thought I would share them with you.
I have been waiting since December for this coin to arrive, and I am so happy that I finally have it to add to my growing collection.
This is the coin I won on a FB coin dip for $10. I have found two coins with the same grading on EBay for $280. I love this coin and I am so happy I didn't have to spend lots of money for it. Having a graded coin adds extra value to the coin and the maximum grade for a Mint State (MS) coin is MS70, and this one is a MS68, which is pretty good and I am very happy with it.
I won these two AC/DC 20c Coins on a competition on FB. And since I already have them, I am going to give them to a friend of mine that loves AC/DC and has an interest in coin collecting. I thought this might help peek his interest some more.
I decided that I might look at purchasing some silver as an investment for my daughter once I pass. And I saw these 1 Gram .999 Silver Bullion Bars for $7.50 and thought what a bargain. I didn't really think how big 1 gram would be, but these are tiny. Lol I think I will stick to buying 1 oz Silver Bars whenever I have spare money.

Hello Coin fans - trust today will be a good one! And hi @Mustang67 I’ve been off air too. Life busy flat out or flat out resting. Love your latest coins! Saw the AC/DC and would have jumped on that if I had the dough. Such a unique coin that one! Space is sure to hold interest forevermore : ) everyone’s mad about space these days and it’s likely the be relevant for a great deal of time yet.
I found a cool coin in my change yesterday and can’t stop thinking about its captivating bloom. Can’t find any examples of decimal coins like it, but have found a lot of info on ancient bronze coins and management of corrosion. Distilled water baths mostly. Anyway, here’s a pic and check out the colour in the letter’s either side of the raised line - the E is Blue and the A is 3 colours! I can’t help but ruminate about its history and environmental factors that caused this to such a young coin. Felt like I’d won lotto when I received it and I’ve lost days researching. My best guess is buried in soil near salt water? There’s a lot going on with this coin. Possibly a wishing-well causing oxidisation highlighting some sort of strike or planchet error? Love to know your thoughts…
I also thought of you when I came across this coin because it’s just beautiful : ) it’s from the Seven Wonder’s of the World series. Plenty expensive but I’ve added it to my top 10 most beautiful coins wish list.
I’ve also taken up a bit of coin noodling at my local bank, although I read casino coin machines can dispense a good variety of coins too so I might give that a try someday. At the bank I take out $40 and ask for it in $1 and then break open the bank rolls and I’m lost for hours researching any new finds. Best of all, it’s free!
Hope this finds you well and you have a magical day 🌻

Hi @Harmonium that dollar coin. WOW! You would probably know more about what has caused the damage that I would. The only damage that I have seen in coin is the green cancer (oxidation). Do you know if you have coins that have the green cancer, yoy should not store it with other coins, as apparently it will spread to the other coins.
I absolutely love the detail in the Gardens of Babylon coin. Yes very nice.
I really wanted to do noodling, but after my bank refused to give me my money in rolls and limited me to $50, I was disheartened. And now I can't afford it. So have given up. I just check whatever change I get. I try to use cash whenever I can.

That $1 coin looks like it's been half under something so only half oxidised @Mustang67 @Harmonium .
Looks awesome though.
That greenish colour happens with when copper reacts with air - blue-greenish patina. Cool stuff.

Hi @tyme and @Mustang67 and Coin Fans,
Yeah, so I’ve done a deep dive since receiving the coin as change and my OCD led me far and yonder - this is what I love about coins…how much I’m learning about weird stuff like metals and oxidisation, it’s cool stuff. So I looked up the coins from that year and guess what, it’s made from Aluminium and Bronze. In coin world they call it AlBr. So yeah, the uncirculated coin from this year is AlBr and I can’t figure how this patina came about…but then I’m no scientist.
So I read more and turns out Bronze can form brilliant colour schemes of copper, blue, and green which struck me as ironic for the landscape of Australia…but then bronze is gold so it’s even more meaningful to me. And then we have the International Year Of Older Persons mixed in which I feel makes the coin a beautiful tribute to us over 50 here. Well I just feel like I’ve won lotto with this coin!
And Mustang, I know you enjoy photography so you’ll appreciate the fun I had trying to capture its inherent beauty. A long time ago I worked with on a jewellery mag and capturing reflective small things like diamonds was a challenge - coins are so much more rewarding! I’m no artist photographer but I selected work from photographers and grew and appreciation for those who did it creatively and brought something new to the world of jewels. I count coins as jewels, they can be indescribably beautiful and just as valuable:
so on to the noodling…$50 is more than enough $1 coins Mustang. $40 will get you 2x $20 dollar rolls of $1 coins and that’s heaven from where I sit. If you get a fine magnifying glass you could add a roll of 5c or 10c and be lost in coin world for days. Haha, yep, that’s where I’m at and loving how time slips through my hours while I’m in heaven sifting through potential superstar coins. I’ve yet to find any…but the 1999 is my greatest hit. For now : )
it’s been so lovely to read your reports back on this treasure and I hope to see some cool discoveries of your own exploration of the world of random cons in your change : )

Hi @Harmonium
You did a great with your coin photography. My ex used to take photos of wine bottles and we ended up buying a photo box (can't think of it's correct name at the moment), so he could chose from which direction the light was coming from, and where it would appear on the bottle. But that is in storage along with all my other photography lights and equipment.
When I started and wanted to get into noodling, I purchased a Jiusion 2K HD 2560x1440P USB Digital Microscope for Android Cellphone and Tablet Windows Mac Linux, 40X to 1000X Magnification Endoscope Handheld Mini Magnifier Camera for $46.99. I haven't used it a lot so far, as I quickly lost interest. But for the purpose of noodling, I think it is fantastic. It comes with a stan, but after reading the reviews, saying that the stand was too flimsy, I purchased a stronger one.
Because I have limited money these days, I really want to sit down with my decimal currency collection that I started, and see what coins are missing, and also to look for errors in the coins that I have collected so far. But I need to balance my time in some way to allow for the workshops I have signed up for, and to read some books I have purchased recently. And all the while not getting overwhelmed by it all.
If I find anything special when I go through my coins, I will definitely be posting it on here.
