Re: Lived Experience Advisory Committee First Nations Member Recruitment

Hi Everyone,

I thought I would introduce myself - I haven't before. I am the Manager of Lived Experience & Peer Work at SANE. I've been with SANE for nearly 2yrs and it has been the best job ever.

Like many of us on the Forums, I too struggle with my mental health from time-to-time but over the years it's gone from being a roaring lion to a tiny little kitten. Still annoys me but I can control it. When it was like a lion it was a bit uncontrollable. Feel free to talk to me about OCD, Panic Disorder, Childhood Trauma and Depression.

Fun fact, I was born in India but my mum and dad moved to Australia over 24 years ago and we are aussie citizens.

I was lucky enough as part of my role here at SANE to establish the LEAC Committee.

The Committee meets every 2-3months. It's next meeting is in August. It meets in the evening at 4pm to support those that work.

Feel free to apply. It's not about the looks - if you are and identify as aboriginal and/or torres strait islander then you are welcome. We don't judge or discriminate.

If you have any questions or would just like to chat feel free to let me know.

@RachSANECEO @ArraDreaming @Oaktree

Thanks 🙂

Hi nice to meet you. I am used to feeling judged for not being dark enough

Re: Lived Experience Advisory Committee First Nations Member Recruitment

@Oaktree yes it does 🙂

Re: Lived Experience Advisory Committee First Nations Member Recruitment

@Oaktree That is a shame - one should never be judged because of their skin colour. No matter how much milk you put in a cup of tea - it's still a cup of tea. a quote from Aunty Munya's book.

Re: Lived Experience Advisory Committee First Nations Member Recruitment

Well I know that @AD_SANE_LEM

Unfortunately for me and as the Australian government knows Aboriginal colour is bred out very quickly. My Nana was English and had by Mother with an Aboriginal man. Then my Mother married a man from England. I also married an Englishman. My daughter is the whitest Aboriginal you ever saw. And we have blue eyes to boot. I do have a certificate of confirmation if I need it

Re: Lived Experience Advisory Committee First Nations Member Recruitment

We know the significant impact of colonisation. It's so so sad and it perpetuates intergenerational trauma. You are more than welcome to apply - we don't judge based on skin colour.
