Why are nights worse with depression?

I've been feeling down for about three weeks now, but it's worse at night time.  If I'm going to feel suicidal, it's at night.  I don't think it's just that it's quieter at night.  Wondering if anyone knows if there's a brain chemistry reason for this?

I am worse at night. For me I think cause it's quiet and dark.  I don't know if it's brain chemistry chsnge. 
thsts a good question. Might ask my psych next appt.

I find my wost time is when I wake in the mornings.. my painc attacks/anxiety is at its worst... and all I want to do is roll over and hide from the world...
