Really freaking out about the future

I'm really worried about my future...

There's so much effort required to get anywhere in life and I don't think I can do it.

I'm always worried that I won't 'get there'

For someone my age I'm very worried and very stressed as well as not being very optimistic about the future..

I'm just afraid and concerned and I hate it..

tried to go to a friends place but had to bail on the way there... cant face people tonight.. tried to make myself feel better but it didnt happen by using cbt etc..
tried to ring lifeline but 10mins on hold.. mum said come home..
i feel like the biggest failure

Re: Really freaking out about the future

@Hamsolo,01 what triggered this change from your post this afternoon? You aren't a failure,it's just the fact that you have anxiety which as I said to me can come on me instantly like someone hit me on the back of the head.Deep breaths my friend!👤

Re: Really freaking out about the future

Hey. Good on you for trying to get outand socialise.  Sometimes its really hard.  Most of the time I'm a shut-in so I think making the effort should be something to be proud of.  Good friends will understand, even if you don't tell the specifically why you can't face them tonight.

I also find CBT and mindfullness are of limited help to me when I'm upset.  It really works for some people, but if you're distressed, which it sounds like you may be, then maybe just breathing slowly or riding the wave may be better.

Try Lifeline again, or the Suicide callback service.  Saturdays are really busy.  Don't let waiting get you down.

You're not a failure.  You're here and you're trying to get help.  That is really brave.

Sending hugs through the ether.

Re: Really freaking out about the future

@Flying_Hams,you are probably just tired which I know brings it out with me.Try and get some sleep.💟

Re: Really freaking out about the future

@Flying_Hams I know it's cliche, but life after uni can be way better than things seem while you're in the thick of it.

People talk a lot about linear progress (dating, job, moving out, etc.) and it can seem like a lot of pressure if we don't follow the milestones at the same time as other people, but it's seriously ok. Even though it may seem otherwise, there are others who don't hit the same milestones at the same time but manage to hit them later. There's still time for anything you set your mind to doing, and it's not a lost cause if it takes a bit longer than it seems like it should.
