neurological psychological assessment

Hi everyone,
I am curious if others have had this assessment before.
Both my psychologist and g.p are reccomending I have it done, i believe it is to work out if I have any under lying personality issues that might help my treatment.
Anyone with knowledge about it?
thanks

Re: neurological psychological assessment

Yes, I'm supposed to be having one as well......some years ago, I had one, in 2003, to me it feels like yesterday......
I think you have an iq test.....am I right??
I had an MRI too.

Re: neurological psychological assessment

Not too sure my psychologist asked me if I had ever had it done in the past and then it seems because I haven't had one that she thinks it would be very beneficial my gp feels the same way.
I googled it and it looks like it takes roughly 3hours
I believe it includes an iq test I will find out more this week.
I am planning on further discussion with my psychologist

Re: neurological psychological assessment

I have thought it's a good idea.....not take the iq test too literally though because that's how you feel on the day stuff.
I really enjoy seeing a psychologist.... You ?

Re: neurological psychological assessment

In the past I have had major trust issues with psychologists. I have only seen my current one, once before but the initial meeting and subsequent consultation made feel very pleased and I have a good vibe. First time I have had that feeling from one before.
my psychiatrist on the other hand we don't gel very well but I will be seeing him for the second time, this week coming so it will be interesting....
I think when you find someone who you click with it can be very rewarding
well I have had a tough weekend, had to make a couple decisions I usually don't make, regarding substance use, I said no for the first time in a long time and it felt ok it still doesn't feel right but I stuck by it, so I am happy lol

Re: neurological psychological assessment

It's a day by day thing hey.

Re: neurological psychological assessment

I don't know if I should be writing this .....

.where is Nik Nik, Cherry Bomb, Karma and
Hobbit.......

I personally don't give a shivers if my oldest son uses illegal substances. I just want him to manage his own life. no one is gonna help him as he gets older.

I saw a photo of him on facebook a couple of days ago. He's looking good.

Re: neurological psychological assessment

Good on you @kato

Sounds like you're putting in a lot of hard work to look after yourself.

Re: neurological psychological assessment

Yeah it is really trying anf some days I just want to go back to how I was.
But I have made promises to those close to me
the hardest part is recognising the signs and symptoms
and steering clear of negativity
I have a strong feeling tho that I will take backward steps in the near future but teyong not to think about it
I should get some help this week I have 3 appointments to attend plus I am going to contact each and other groups to start getting more help
I feel myself starting to spike up in mood which is a concern but implementing the imagined lid on it has worked in the past and should again

Re: neurological psychological assessment

Maybe @kato think of it as a sideways step, instead of a backwards step.

Recovery does involve lapses, i think its realistic to understand this.

It's how you manage that that's the trick, managing the self talk.
