@Darcy, Mr Lincoln is a beauty. Mum had it in her garden years ago. Reliable, well shaped and fragrant. Black Boy is also pretty good.
Parsnip seed is often hard to germinate, but the ones I've put in are very fresh, so I've tried planting them individually at their final spacings, and will replant any that don't come up. I put in maybe 50-60 seeds, so that was fiddly but not quite totally insane.
Need to do a lot of yard cleanup still before fire danger kicks in here. While I don't much like the cold and wet, at least it means we've got more leadup time.

@frog, I've seen some impressive small gardens. Sometimes little spaces can be more productive than big ones because you can properly pay attention to everything. I reduced the area I was actively gardening over the past couple of years because with everything else happening, I wasn't managing to keep it all alive. I'm hoping to gradually re-expand, improving the soil and the layout as I go.
What would be brilliant would be small space intensive productivity in a big yard... my dream, still to discover whether it's a practicable reality.

My plants are a bit frazzled by the heat @Darcy
Though still flowering (roses & hibiscus etc).
I just sprayed the roofs of my 3 aviaries with the garden hose - to cool the birds down.
They were panting with the heat (about 37 C).

Actually the temperature reached 40 C here today @Shaz51
Higher than I thought.

Yep @Shaz51 That's why I hosed the aviary roofs (to cool them down).
I don't want to lose those (4) baby Java finches.
They're so cute!
They're all poking their heads out through the netbox hole (out of curiosity).
One almost fell out, with the other babies pushing behind it....
