Re: In a jam, pickled, frozen, well preserved and other culinary triumphs

@Smc  I have never heard of "feijoa". Can you tell me what it is

Re: In a jam, pickled, frozen, well preserved and other culinary triumphs

Sort of a cool climate guava @greenpea. In the same general family as guavas, but a more cold tolerant species. They've got a nice tangy flavour, make excellent jam and jelly, also good for eating fresh. The skin is tangier than the flesh, some people like it, some don't.

I'll let you know how it goes!

Re: In a jam, pickled, frozen, well preserved and other culinary triumphs

Pumpkin jam @SJT63 , that sounds interesting

What in it apart from pumpkin xx

I have made pumpkin pie and  pumpkin soup

I like butternut  pumpkin

Re: In a jam, pickled, frozen, well preserved and other culinary triumphs

@Shaz51

1.5kg pumpkin, cubed

2 oranges - juice and zest

1kg sugar

1tspn each ginger, nutmeg & cinnamon

I plan to use the stick blender to make it smoother before it comes to setting point and then let it finish cooking.

Re: In a jam, pickled, frozen, well preserved and other culinary triumphs

Just saw this bbc clip about Aussie brewers ... using algae ... kind of on topic do you think??

I am more often in a pickle than I actually do pickling ...lol

Cheers All

@Shaz51 @Appleblossom

very pleased with the colour and consistency of the pumpkin jam

not sure if I like it... it does taste just like pumpkin pie... but like most jam, I find it a bit cloying.

It will probably be nice on a crusty loaf with butter as opposed to tasting it on a spoon.

Looks great.

Re: In a jam, pickled, frozen, well preserved and other culinary triumphs

Well done @SJT63 , how much did you make

Hello @Appleblossom , @greenpea , @Smc
